What first interested me about web design was my university degree in Business
majoring in Electronic Business. I learnt theory about
web-based businesses which lead to my interest in the technical side of things; building webpages. I
had been dabbling in building webpages since High School. At university (QUT)
a unit "website for e-commerce", allowed me to learn how to build an e-commerce
webpage (Crystal Insights). I then started my own business and
built commercial web pages (Erica Van Uitregt Web Design!), but I still felt I didn't have enough
knowledge.
This lead to the Diploma of IT in website development offered at Yeronga TAFE. I won the scholarship for this course and completed it in 2005. The first semester dealt with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Testing, Security Policies and other site content policies and updating and loading procedures. The second semester dealt with server-side languages and databases, and technicals of security and others.
Having completed the Diploma, I have been temping for a year and three months, gaining confidence and skill in the job market. I am now seeking employment in the fields of Website Development/Design and Business Analysis.
